Kangaroos (4 year old)
The Kangaroo groups work on a rotation program: Your child will attend each of their three sessions with the same core group of 8 children, and combined with two of the other groups on each day.
In 2010 Pinjarra Kindergarten introduced 5 COLOUR GROUPS to give parents an opportunity to choose the days and times that suit their child/ren best.
Pinjarra Kindergarten will increase 4yo Kinder to 15hrs per week in 2013, in accordance with Universal Access to 15hrs of Early Childhood Education (implemented by DEECD).

Our 4 year old Kangaroos attend four hour sessions, three times a week, in their chosen colour group; a total of 12 hours of Kindergarten per week. On Thursday and Friday, children have an opportunity to stay a further two hours for the AFTERNOON EXTENDED PROGRAM which includes lunch, a play, followed by music, drama and a dance program.
BENEFITS OF COLOUR GROUPINGS.
Sue Mitchell, the teacher of the four year old program has worked with colour groupings (group rotation models) for 7 years and loves teaching with this system in place.
Colour groupings allow parents more choices to select the group that fits in with work and other commitments.
Over the course of the week, children get to meet all the four year old children at Pinjarra Kindergarten, which assists them to feel more comfortable at school transition time later in the year. The more familiar faces at a new school, the better!
Social benefits of colour groupings allow the children to meet and play with new and old friends each day. Children come to remember the friends they enjoy the company of, on their rostered group days.
Colour groupings allow children to extend and enjoy friendships with different social dynamics each session, and this can often help minimise ‘clickiness’ (children staying with the same small group of friends all year, without branching out).
If you wish to find out more about our colour groupings at Pinjarra Kindergarten, please call Sue Mitchell on (03) 9723 2816.
* Your child’s readiness to participate in an aftercare session will be decided in consultation with the teacher should you wish to take up this option. Acceptance into this extra program will be at the discretion of the teacher.
